Press Release


On October 6, 2005 Abner Amaya, age 33, of Carrolton Kentucky,  was formally sentenced to 15 years in prison as a result of a guilty plea arrangement before Oldham County Circuit Court for the following charges:

1) Assault 2nd Degree

2) Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument 2nd Degree (2 counts)

3) Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence, Aggravated

4) Being a Persistent Felony Offender 2nd

On July 20, 2004, at approximately 22:15 hours, Abner Amaya was involved in a motor vehicle collision with Kay Masuhr.  The collision occurred on US 42 near the intersection of Locke Lane.  The Oldham County Police Reconstruction Team reconstructed the collision and determined Abner Amaya while traveling east on US 42 had crossed the centerline striking Kay Masuhr head on, thus being at fault and causing the collision.  Abner Amaya was driving a 1998 Toyota Camry and Kay Masuhr was driving a 1995 Volvo.  Abner Amaya was also discovered to be under the influence of alcohol with a blood alcohol content of .21, in possession of a counterfeit social security card and counterfeit California Drivers License.

At the time of the collision Abner Amaya suffered only minor injuries, while Kay Masuhr’s injuries were life threatening.

Abner Amaya suffers no known lasting effects as a result of the collision. 

Ms. Masuhr survived her injuries but suffers from ongoing medical treatments and ailments as a result of the collision.
