Fatal Collision on Interstate 71

Oldham County Police are investigating a single vehicle collision involving a fatality.  Oldham County Police were notified at 5:12 pm of an overturned vehicle just south of the rest area on northbound Interstate 71.  Witnesses stated that the pick-up truck, operated by Jose Romero Ramos, age 30, of the 9800 block of Old Six Mile Lane in Louisville, KY, exited the left side of the roadway striking a guardrail face.  The truck rolled at least once and came to rest on its top.  One passenger in the cab, and two passengers in the bed of the truck, were ejected.  The three passengers, Daniele Ortega, age 22, Jesus Sanchez, age 22, and Flavio Jarquin, age 22, were transported to University Hospital by StatCare with life threatening injuries. 

The driver, Jose Romero Ramos was pronounced dead at the scene by the Oldham County Coroners Office. 

Police do not believe any of the occupants were wearing seat belts.  Police ask anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact them at (502) 222-1300.
