OLDHAM COUNTY POLICE ARREST HOME INVASION ROBBERY SUSPECT 

On 7-3-09, at approximately 1:30 AM, Oldham County Police were dispatched to the 1000 block of Goshen Lane, on a home invasion burglary.  Officers arrived on scene and found the Home Owner, Wes Johnson, and a houseguest, Richard Rackleff, subduing Sherman Ellis, a 34 year old white male who resides in the 2400 block of Rowan Street, Louisville, Ky. 40202. 

Mr. Johnson told police that he was awakened to the sound of his garage door opening, and went to investigate.  As he returned to his basement, he observed Ellis hiding in a storage room.  Mr. Johnson wrestled Ellis to the ground sustaining minor injuries in doing so.  Mr. Rackleff assisted Mr. Johnson in physically subduing Mr. Ellis.  Sometime during the struggle, Mr. Johnson’s wife, retrieved a handgun, and held Mr. Ellis at gunpoint until police arrived.  Police were able to determine, that Mr. Ellis cut the convertible top to Mr. Johnson’s car and removed  the garage door opener gaining access to the garage of the Johnson’s residence.   As police  arrived Ellis became violent and one officer sustained minor injuries.  The officer did not seek medical treatment for the injuries.

The following charges were placed against Ellis: 

  1. Burglary 2nd degree

  2. Robbery 2nd degree

  3. Assault 4th degree

  4. Theft by Unlawful Taking or Disposition from auto

  5. Criminal Mischief 3rd degree

  6. Assault 3rd degree-Police Officer

  7. Resisting Arrest

  8. Possession of burglary tools

  9. Wanton Endangerment-2nd degree

  10. Intimidating a participant in a legal process

  11. Disorderly Conduct-2nd degree

  12. Criminal Mischief - 1st degree
