OLDHAM COUNTY POLICE PRESS RELEASE


TRAFFIC COLLISION CLOSES INTERSTATE 71 FOR TWO AND A HALF HOURS
 

On November 25,2010 at approximately 4:30 pm,  Oldham County Police responded to an injury motor vehicle collision involving two passenger vehicles on the south bound side of Interstate 71, north of the 14 mile marker.

A 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer was traveling north bound on Interstate 71 by Robert P. Kane, age 33, from the 4100 block of Grimes Cove, Buckner, Kentucky.  Mr. Kane's 5 year old daughter was a passenger in the vehicle.  Kane lost control of his vehicle traveling across the median into the south bound traffic lanes of Interstate 71.  Kane's vehicle struck a 2000 Nissan Altima in the south bound lane driven by Adrian L. Hightower, age 19 of the 4200 block of Graft Drive, Louisville, Kentucky.  17 year old Madeline Thomas, of the 3000 Don Dee Drive, Louisville, Kentucky, was a passenger in the Hightower vehicle. 

Kane was not properly restrained in his vehicle.   

Hightower and Thomas were properly restrained by seatbelts and had to be extricated by South Oldham Fire and Rescue from their vehicle.

Hightower, Thomas and Kane received serious injuries from the collision and were transported to University of Louisville Hospital by Oldham County EMS.  At approximately 8:20 Friday morning, November 26, 2010, Hightower passed away as a result of the his injuries.  Thomas was passed away as a result of her injuries on Friday, November 26, 2010 around 2:00 pm.  The severity of Kane's daughter's injuries were undetermined and she was transported to Kosair Children's Hospital by EMS. 

Alcohol may be a factor in the collision.

Interstate 71 south bound at the collision scene was closed for approximately two and half hours.

The collision remains under investigation.
