SERGEANT HAROLD HOSKINS PRESENTS MILITARY FLAG TO OLDHAM COUNTY POLICE Sergeant Harold Hoskins of Crestwood is home for two weeks from Iraq where he is assigned to the 149th BCT, Kentucky National Guard. Sergeant Hoskins’ unit is attached to the storied 101st Airborne Division and his assignment is to provide security to the area Commander in Iraq, Colonel Charles Jones. Sergeant Hoskins spent 20 years with the South Oldham Fire Department before his National Guard Unit was activated and deployed to Iraq. Hoskins has a number of friends on the Oldham County Police and that Department has shown its support of Hoskins by sending messages of encouragement via email, welfare checks on the Hoskins family and a package containing OCPD memorabilia. On his home visit Sergeant Hoskins presented the Oldham County Police Department with a flag that had flown over his base of operations in an undisclosed area in Iraq. The flag bears the logo of the 101st Airborne Division. Upon receiving the flag for the OCPD, Chief Michael Griffin commented, “Although Sergeant Hoskins is but one of approximately 130,000 soldiers serving heroically in Iraq, for us he is the face that personalizes the sacrifices being made to preserve freedom over there and back here at home. We are honored to receive the 101st Airborne flag and it will be placed in our lobby next to the statue of Iron Mike as a symbol of duty, honor and sacrifice for all who enter to see.” Iron Mike is a statue of a soldier from WWII who stands in silent vigil at the OCPD and will remain there until the last American soldier returns from combat duty in Iraq and Afghanistan. |
