Press Release

The Oldham County Police and LaGrange Police Departments’ partnership with the DEA has once again proved beneficial for both departments and the citizens of Oldham County.  On February 18, 2005, Tony King, the Resident Agent In Charge (RAIC) at the DEA office in Louisville, presented checks to the Oldham County Police Department (OCPD) and the LaGrange Police Department (LPD) for their roles in a narcotics interdiction that took place off I-71 in LaGrange in July of 2002.

What appeared to be a routine traffic stop turned into the discovery of drug paraphernalia, marijuana residue and $20,000 in cash?  An OCPD canine alerted on the vehicle that was initially stopped by an LPD officer where a  consent to search led to the discovery of the drug related items.  The forfeiture of the seized money went uncontested by the subject of the case and the DEA processed the forfeiture which resulted in the funds being turned over to the two police agencies in Oldham County.  The OCPD received in excess of $10,000 and the LPD received $1,600 for their respective roles.

The funds will be utilized to purchase equipment for both departments.  An example of utilization of these funds is the equipping of the entire OCPD with Taser devices, with the entire cost of $26,000 coming from drug forfeiture money.

The checks were presented by RAIC Tony King to OCPD Chief Michael Griffin and LPD Chief Kevin Collett.

“This money will help our department to obtain equipment to better enable us to serve the citizens of our great county,” Chief Griffin stated at the check presentation, “without further burdening them and their tax dollars.”

“This forfeiture enables a small department like ours to obtain needed equipment that may otherwise be out of our reach financially,” LPD Chief Kevin Collett, stated.  “We are grateful for an opportunity to partner with the Oldham County Police Department and the DEA to the benefit of our LaGrange citizens.”
