Traffic safety checkpoint scheduled on KY 146 and Interstate Exit Ramp
The Kentucky Office of Highway Safety, Kentucky State Police, Oldham County Police and the LaGrange Police Department are conducting a traffic safety checkpoint on Kentucky 146 on Monday, May 24 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Motorists will be cited for any moving traffic violations with an emphasis on seat belts in honor of the annual Click It or Ticket campaign running May 17 to June 6. Those not buckled up or in violation of other laws will receive a citation, but those who are buckled will receive a different kind of ticket – a “Click It FOR Tickets” voucher. The voucher allows them to register to win a set of six tickets to the Kentucky Speedway. WHO: Kentucky Office of Highway Safety, Oldham County Police, and LaGrange Police WHAT: Traffic safety checkpoint WHEN: Monday, May 24, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. EDT WHERE: KY 146 and the Exit Ramp of Interstate 71 Media may set up in the emergency lane of north side of KY 146 for live shots and interviews with agency representatives. WHY: According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, when worn correctly, seat belts are proven to reduce the risk of fatal injury to front-seat occupants by 45 percent – and by 60 percent in pickup trucks, SUVs, and minivans. Kentucky’s seat belt usage rate is 80 percent, below the national average of 84 percent. |
