OPERATION CRACK-DOWN

 

In May of this year, in response to complaints and intelligence gathering by the Oldham County Police and LaGrange Police, investigations were initiated to target those individuals suspected of trafficking narcotics within Oldham County. Culminating a seven-month investigation dubbed OPERATION CRACK-DOWN, an Oldham County Grand Jury met on Thursday, 12/9/04, and handed down sealed indictments on 18 separate individuals. 

 

The arrest phase of OPERATION CRACK-DOWN began in the early morning hours on Friday, 12/10/04, when officers of the Oldham County Police and LaGrange Police Departments, in addition to troopers from the Kentucky State Police, fanned out in Oldham County to initiate the arrests of 18 alleged drug traffickers.  The trafficking charges involve the alleged distribution of crack cocaine and powder cocaine. In addition to Trafficking charges, four individuals have also been indicted as Persistent Felony Offenders. Those charged are as follows:

Most of those charged in OPERATION CRACK-DOWN are residents of Oldham County while a few are from Jefferson County but have strong ties to Oldham County.  All undercover drug buys were transacted inside the borders of Oldham County.  All the Trafficking in a Controlled Substance 1st counts are Class C Felonies punishable with up to ten years in prison on each count.

 

These efforts have produced 30 undercover transactions, 37 police agency cases and identified 19 individuals suspected in trafficking crack and powder cocaine.  The use of drug forfeiture supported the operational costs of over $5,000, which includes the purchase of $3,750 of suspected crack and powder cocaine*.

 

* Two transactions later determined to involved counterfeit/simulated substance, negative lab response for cocaine.
